In 1990, our founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, accepted an invitation from U.S. President George H.W. Bush to be the spokesperson for a national adoption awareness campaign. Over the years, Dave’s public service announcements and advocacy efforts helped to spread the word about the urgent need for foster care adoption, eventually expanding his reach to Canada.
Today, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption-Canada is proud to carry Dave’s legacy forward. Core to this work is our commitment to conducting research to understand what the public believes about adoption and foster care and help correct any misconceptions that are acting as barriers to finding permanent families for children lingering in foster care. We use this information to craft positive messaging and develop free educational resources, including videos, articles, adoption guides and more.
Through our awareness channels and promotion of resources, the Foundation reaches thousands of people each year, helping to advance our vision of a permanent home and a loving family for every child.
