Forever family created 5/27/09

Matt entered the foster care system due to drug and alcohol abuse by his biological family. He spent his early years in a foster home. Because of behavioural and emotional difficulties resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure, Matt was placed in residential care. Workers were skeptical about the possibility that he could live within a family setting. But once the WWK recruiter became involved, she gathered informationĀ and evaluated him on an ongoing basis. She worked hard to develop a relationship with Matt and to prepare him for adoption. It wasn’t easy because of his emotional difficulties, but she persevered.
A prospective adoptive family persevered in their interest, attended adoption training and had a home study. Along the way, they had to learn a considerable amount about Matt’s special needs. MattĀ was motivated to leave the group home and accept the nurturing and quiet atmosphere offered by his new family. He loved the family pets who immediately loved and protected him.
Matt will have life-long challenges, but is blessed with a family who truly loves him and is committed to help him become the best he can be.
