Forever family created 2/18/10

Shelly had been in foster care since birth and had lived in the same foster home since she was one month old. She was placed in the home because her sister had been adopted by the family. They had intentions of adopting Shelly, but due to her level of special needs and those of her sister, they were unable to follow through.

A couple was contacted who had adopted three children with special needsĀ from the agency. Once they learned of Shelly’s needs, they were very proactive in seeking out the best services for her. Since Shelly had only known one family, her foster family, the recruiter took the adoption process slowly, allowing time for the family to get to know each other and build a trusting relationship.

It was network building and adoption preparation that made this adoption so successful.
